We offer residential Flute Courses for Amateur Adults, Teachers or Students
Please check by each course for playing level and contact us with any queries.
Age groups are never merged and you are never too old to learn! We just adjust the pace.
All courses are kept small in numbers for maximum attention. Bespoke courses are very small indeed and limited to just 3 players maximum. Ensembles courses vary from 4 – 10 players depending on the venue.
We have over 35 years of professional playing and teaching experience.

Our flute courses contain a balance of the following :-
Tone and Technique
Small group workshops and classes
Embouchure, Articulation, Posture, Breathing and general playing tips and tricks.
Ensemble parts written to suit your level of experience.
High level playing for Teachers and advanced players
Gently paced work  and repetition for those with less experience.
Scales and exercises for finger dexterity . Solo repertoire, duets, trios etc. Pianist available
Rhythm and reading work for beginners.
We have parts for Piccolo, C flute, Alto and Bass and a library of over 300 unique arrangements.
1:1 individual coaching sessions are available when time allows or if it is a bespoke, individually structured  course.

“As ever, it was lovely to get so much playing, and trying to put into practice some of the techniques in my own pieces certainly makes a difference. Your ability to pinpoint problem areas, and deal with them, is always a source of pleasure and inspiration. Still playing the Mozart – and G block!!”     CJ February 2017

Unique venues, many with en suite accommodation and a choice of single, twin and double rooms; all comfortably furnished and with good facilities.

Delicious home cooking with all catering done by ourselves and special diets catered for where possible. Meal times are a highlight of each course.

Partners (non playing or playing) welcome on all courses. Relax, read or explore the area and then join us for meals and be our ‘audience’ in open playing sessions.

Barnsley Village is set in the heart of the Cotswolds, three miles from the historic town of Cirencester, on the old Roman route from Cirencester to Oxford. Barnsley’s ancient history dates back to an Iron Age settlement in Barnsley Park. In A.D. 360, a Roman villa was built at the settlement, but by 577, after the capture of Cirencester, a Saxon village called Bearmodeslea (Bearmod’s glade) was established at the site.

The Domesday Book recorded the village’s population at 24. After becoming known as Barndesley in 1197, the village became royal property under the reign of Henry VIII three hundred years later. Henry was known to let each of his wives solely enjoy the village by turns. During the time of the village’s status as royal property, many of its inhabitants earned their living through agriculture and sheep, helping make the Cotswolds the centre of the wool trade.

The Bouchier family became the owners of the village in 1548 and held it for the next two hundred years. One of the village’s most famous features is Barnsley House, built-in 1667 by Brereton Bourchier. The renowned residence has since been converted into The Barnsley House Hotel, with its famous gardens still a major tourist attraction. The Barnsley Village Garden Festival was inaugurated in 1998 and celebrated its 20th anniversary on 17 May 2008.

Cirencester: The attractive market town of Cirencester is the largest town in the Cotswold District. It is the home of the Royal Agricultural College, the oldest agricultural college in the English-speaking world, founded in 1840. Cirencester was known to be an important early Roman area, when it was called Corinium, and the town’s Corinium Museum is well known for its extensive Roman collection. Cirencester contains a wide range of shops, leisure facilities and tourist attractions, including the Church of St. John the Baptist, renowned for its Perpendicular porch, fan vaults and merchants’ tombs, and Cirencester House, the seat of Earl Bathurst and the site of one of the finest landscape gardens in England, laid out by the first Earl Bathurst after 1714.

The Cotswolds are a range of hills in west-central England, sometimes called the ‘Heart of England’. The name Cotswold means ‘sheep enclosure in rolling hillsides”.

The Cotswolds are characterised by attractive small towns and villages, built of the underlying Cotswold stone (a yellow oolitic limestone). In the Middle Ages the wool trade made the Cotswolds prosperous and some of this money was put into the building of churches, leaving the area with a number of large handsome Cotswold stone ‘wool churches’. The area remains affluent, which has encouraged the establishment of many high quality pubs, restaurants and antique shops.

Cotswold towns include Bourton-on-the-Water, Broadway, Burford, Chipping Norton, Cirencester, Moreton-in-Marsh, Northleach, Stow-on-the-Wold, Stroud and Winchcombe.

Where we are

The Lido, made famous by Thomas Mann’s Death in Venice, home to the Film Festival and the favourite week-end and day trip beach trip for Venetians,  is a little over an hour by boat from the main Venice airport or if you prefer then take the bus from the airport terminal to Piazzale Roma and then take the number 1/2 boat down the entire Grand Canal passing the Rialto, Accademia and San Marco.  Please note that Treviso airport, which serves Ryanair, takes more time  and is more costly to transit, but has an easy shuttle bus service to the number 1 boat stop. 1, 2 and 3 day travel tickets are a convenient and inexpensive way of exploring Venice.

Day 1   Arrival and light lunch at 14.00  followed by time to explore the Lido and a playing session. Dinner at 19.30.

Day 2  Playing sessions all morning until 12.30.  Time to sightsee and eat a snack in Venice. Return for an optional playing session at 18.30 and Dinner at 19.30

Day 3   as above for Day 2 or we are happy to be flexible and reverse the order of the sessions if you prefer to make an early start.

Day 4  Depart after breakfast. There is a left luggage office at Piazzale Roma from where you can catch the Airport buses.

Flights: There are many carriers serving Venice airports British Airways, Easyjet, Ryanair offer several direct services daily. It may be easier from some regional airports to take two connecting flights.

We suggest aiming for an early morning flight out to Venice and a late flight back to maximize your time. Single tickets are the same price as returns which enables you to have greater flexibility. We can help you find an extra night’s accommodation if this helps with travel plans. There is a modern and covered walk way from the arrivals at Marco Polo airport to the port which is only a 10 minutes stroll away. From there you board the boat to the Lido, where we will meet you for the easy and scenic canal walk to the villa. Alternatively, take the bus from outside the arrivals terminal into central Venice, which takes you to the water bus terminus. From here pick up the famous number 1 boat and we will meet you at the Lido stop.

Arrival one day earlier: We can offer an extra nights stay on March 14th at £65  B and B for anyone who has a flight time that needs a Saturday travel date.

Luggage: Please travel with compact bags as there is so much walking to do in Venice.  The boats charge 3 euros for extra bags and oversized luggage.

1 main piece and 1 hand item are  fine and included. Instruments are welcome  on most carriers.

Money: We provide Full Board and single room accommodation except for Lunch on Day 2 and 3. No car is needed and the Lido is walkable or use a bus with your water bus travel card.

Transits from the airport are extra  – 14 euros from Marco Polo Airport to the Lido  by Blue Line Aliguna ferry or Airport bus and then a 3 day travel card on the water boat is 52 euros bought as a combined  3 day deal.   Vaporetto journeys are 7.50 euros single for 75 minutes or 40 euros for 72 hours. 52 euros if including the airport bus. Single day travel cards are also available. Much of Venice is free to visit but certain museums ( Accademia, Guggungheim, Doges Palaces etc ) do charge and also have timed tickets in peak periods.

“Thank you very much for running the Andorra course. I am in complete amazement that you both run such an intensive course, look after us and feed us like you do. It’s incredible! It was great food and great company ….and great playing too, of course! I havent played that much for a long time ……. and I’m going back to work for a rest now”  SH : Andorra course September 2015

I wanted to drop you a note to thank you for the wonderful experience in Morocco. I have noticed an incredible difference in my playing and a whole new awareness of what I am doing, or not doing!!!
Now I am listening so much more and trying to keep up these new habits and not fall back into my old ways.  Thank you so much for all your encouragement, patience and perseverance. D.F. February 2015

Thank you very much for the course in Corfu: for your warm welcome and for getting me back on my feet musically speaking and also my morale! All the best for the rest of your courses and till next time! C.M May 2016

Dear Julie, Thank you so much for a really enjoyable course at Home Farm. Your joy of teaching is an inspiration – not to mention your patience! – and I feel as if I learnt so much more about playing the flute. I woke up with Mozart in my head and am determined to play it from memory soon! Lovely to have that amount of playing, plus of course the amazing food which you and Nick seemed to conjure up effortlessly. C.J. February 2016

“thank you so much, yet again, for a fabulous 1 : 1 course. You did everything I needed but didn’t know I needed. It was inspirational and I am so appreciative.”    EB February 2016

“not just a music course, but a culinary experience – simply wonderful food.”
