Saxophone Courses

We offer residential Saxophone Courses for Adults or Students
Please check by each course for playing level and contact us with any queries.
Age groups are never merged.
All courses are kept small in numbers for maximum attention.
We have over 35 years of professional playing and teaching experience.

Adults – Playing Levels*
  • Absolute beginners, near beginners and early grades – we suggest a bespoke, individual needs course as a first experience for rapid and consolidated progress. We can help with rhythm and reading.
  • Grades 2 – 5 – we suggest an ensemble workshop course that goes at a gentle pace with plenty of time to absorb teaching points. It is important to feel comfortable and to progress at your level. Bespoke courses with highly specific and targeted tuition are also highly beneficial. Some reading is required but we are totally understanding and tolerant of your mistakes and have time to help smooth these out.
  • Grades 5 – 8+ – we suggest an ensemble workshop course that moves at a faster pace and where relatively fluent reading is required. Interpretation, style, ensemble techniques and a good level of performance are the aims.  Bespoke courses are also highly beneficial for focused individual improvement.
  • Professional development for first study players or those for whom saxophone is a second or third instrument. Please ask for a suitable venue and set of dates

Our saxophone courses contain a balance of the following :-
Tone and Technique – Small group workshops and classes – Embouchure, posture, sling, reeds and mouthpieces – Ensemble parts written to suit your level of experience. – Scales and exercises for finger dexterity – Solo repertoire – pianist available – Rhythm and reading work
We have parts for Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Baritone Saxophones
1:1 individual coaching sessions are available when time allows or if it is a Bespoke course.
 * Please note that these are not improvisation courses but intended to develop your saxophone playing, so some reading is required

Unique venues, many with en suite accommodation and a choice of single, twin and double rooms;  all comfortably furnished and with good facilities.

“As ever, it was lovely to get so much playing, and trying to put into practice some of the techniques in my own pieces certainly makes a difference. Your ability to pinpoint problem areas, and deal with them, is always a source of pleasure and inspiration. Still playing the Mozart – and G block!!”  C.J. February 2017
